P1/2 - Mrs. K McKinney
A big warm welcome to our Primary 1&2 class!
Our teacher is Mrs Mc Kinney and our classroom assistants are Miss Lynch and Mrs Duffy. There are 20 children in our class and we are looking forward to sharing all of our work and experiences with you.
This year will continue to be a voyage of discovery for us as we learn about the ‘World Around Us’. We will explore a variety of fun topics that enable the children to experience geography, history and science lessons all through the one topic.
During our literacy lessons, we will be learning and also revising all initial sounds, as well as learning how to blend sounds together to create small rhyming words We will be re-telling our news and learning how to write sentences independently with the help of our word mats and practical activities. We will continue to learn new keywords and read our weekly reading books set by our class teacher. We love story time and reading for pleasure in P1&2, and we can’t wait to listen to and read a range of exciting stories in the weeks and months ahead.
In numeracy we will develop our numbers to 10, proceeding on to numbers within 20 and 50. We begin all of our numeracy lessons with mental maths practice, ICT games and counting songs. Our work will include both written and practical activities that are completed individually and as part of a group. Our class will recall how numbers are written and will explore the different ways in which numbers can be created in our number stories. We will learn about shape, space, measure, data handling, time, money and addition and subtraction within 20.
Learning through play is an integral part of our curriculum in Foundation Stage. Play helps us to develop our language, emotions, creativity and social skills. We have daily indoor play sessions as well as fun outdoor play activities when the weather permits.
