Primary Seven have had a very busy first few weeks back at school. We have been doing lots of exciting learning. We conducted an environmental survey of our local area where we evaluated and scored aspects of our environment such as litter and vandalism, as well as trees and play-space. We are happy to report that Strathfoyle is a very pleasant place to live, with lots of green spaces and relatively litter free. However, we also learned that different people have different perspectives and although we might not agree with them, we should always respect someone else’s point of view. We learned about the demise of red squirrels in Northern Ireland due to the domination of the grey squirrels and plan to make squirrel feeder boxes to help the conservation effort. We decided to investigate the person that our school is named after – Saint Oliver Plunkett and used iPads to research about his life, why he is a martyr and why he is such a special person. We linked this with a visit to our adjacent chapel to look at the relic of Saint Oliver Plunkett there.
